Kimberly Edwards was a beautiful and creative soul born January 20, 1990, in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Ithaca, NY. Those who had the pleasure to know Kimberly knew her as a kind person filled with joy and the funny jokes to match. She was a massive Ellen Degeneres Fan and her room was filled with M&M toys and blankets. She was a gymnast as a youth, wrote poetry, and choreographed dance videos in her room. She advocated for others struggling with mental health issues as she tried to figure out her own. She lived by the quote,

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.”

-Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Dear Deena: A journey of loss, grief and overcoming an eating disorder (2017)Last year I lost a best friend to an overdose. Due to the way her and I had left things, my guilt got the best of me and just about took my life 2 times over. Once I realized I wasn't going to have the chance to apologize to her in Heaven I relapsed in my eating disorder. After a 3 week Psychiatric stay I was sent to the same Eating disorder program Deena had been. This is where I gained tools, became vulnerable, learned to grieve in a healthy way and most importantly find self-acceptance all while letting go of guilt I did not deserve. This book is a series of journal entries, poems, and quotes documenting my progress and recovery. As we all know grief is never a straight line, there is no specific order. Everyone's process is different, but I believe we each hit all steps. This is my journey, my process, my recovery and some of Deena's as well. At the end you get a sneak peak as to where I am now in my recovery and my life. Deena was a great young woman whom deserves the world, but that I cannot give, so instead I give her a book. I hope you will find hope in reading this and understanding that you are not alone if grief or eating disorders are something you struggle with. I also hope you find some humor as my story is somewhat a sitcom. Like I said earlier each journey is different. Throughout these entries you will experience my crying, laughing, dancing, screaming, disagreeing and having a panic attack over a bagel. It's worth the read. It was definitely worth writing.

Kim Unscripted: My Unfiltered Life Story (2014)This book is a collection of stories written in the format of journal entries, quotes and poems. I hope to connect with readers through my un-edited and un-filtered experiences on a personal level. My journey has included but not limited to issues concerning trauma, depression, eating disorders and everyday struggles. I challenge each issue with humor in attempt to help lighten such a difficult set of topics that are far more common than many of us are willing to admit. May this benefit readers by helping them understand they are not alone and that the struggles we face are just part of bigger story. Follow me as I search for an identity besides my past, my trauma and a DSM label. "When face meets ground don't give up. Invest in a new pair of shoes and keep on walking" has been one of my favorite quotes by me. Remember no one said it would be easy. Believe when they say the opportunities that await you on the other side are well worth it. -Kim Edwards
